How did you end up starting your own business and working with Dr. Drew Ramsey?
Upon graduation I worked in sales at two different, mid-sized companies, which I didn’t particularly enjoy. I then worked at a boutique marketing agency for almost 3 years as a Production Coordinator which I enjoyed much more but still didn’t find myself very passionate about.
During the pandemic, I learned about holistic health coaching and was drawn to it instantly. I went through an online coaching program to earn a certificate and started my part-time business earlier this year. That led me to entirely shift my career and now my full-time role is working for Dr. Drew Ramsey who is a Nutritional Psychiatrist so I can learn more from him.
What does a typical day look like for you?
In my Operations Associate role at Drew Ramsey MD, I have a variety of responsibilities. I source content and create an email newsletter that is sent to all of our clients, write blog posts for the website, and edit digital video content. I also schedule Dr. Ramsey’s clinical patients, book speaking events, and keep track of Google Analytics.
As a holistic health coach, I post daily to Instagram to keep people engaged in my content and work with individual clients every few days. I have existing brand templates that I use for social media so oftentimes I’ll work with one of those to keep the page consistent. I’m always checking my Instagram business insights to see what people are engaging with the most. I develop my IG content by looking at this past data and getting creative with the content I want to share about my business and holistic health in general. Since I’m just starting out a lot of this is trial and error!
How has Digital Studies influenced your career path?
Classes like Com Arts 155: Introduction to Digital Media Production and Com Arts 355: Introduction to Media Production were very useful. Com Arts 355 was probably my favorite Digital Studies class as it was definitely challenging, but it exposed me to so much.
Both Com Arts 155 and Com Arts 355 gave me a solid background to understand how to produce content before I went on to being a production coordinator. And I use that knowledge now as I edit videos at work!
Do you have any advice for current students?
Get involved in anything that interests you! Try something out if you’re unsure if you’ll like it. You’ll never know if you don’t give it a try.
What achievement are you most proud of in your professional career thus far?
Making a jump in my career into something I’m very passionate about. Not only did I start my own business recently, but I also decided to enroll in a graduate program this year to get a Masters degree in Integrative Nutrition.
