Communication Arts 335: Social Media as Literature
“How can social media make our lives better?” Is it like reading Shakespeare, watching great films, or reading poetry? How is it different? In our modern age, the idea that reading “great literature” will make us better people might seem dated, but what if we think about the stuff we do read, watch, and listen to as if it is literature?
By developing our skills in looking closely at the social media we consume, we hope to be able to see new things: small details, unnoticed patterns, surprising effects. And in seeing those new things about the social media content we look at in our everyday lives, we should be empowered to choose to engage that content more intentionally and in ways that make us feel, act, and be the ways we want to be.
Class Memes

The goal of this assignment was to create a series of memes related to course content. In this case, the confusion of differing genres of social media posts.

This project was part of an assignment that asked students to make memes for a specific target audience. I chose UW-Madison students as my target audience, and created this meme in particular with fellow CA335 students in mind. In this case, the confusion of differing genres of social media posts.
