How did you end up working at Uber Technologies?

My first experience within the advertising world was during my junior and senior years at UW when I interned at OMD (one of the “big four” advertising firms) on the McDonald’s and Frito-Lay accounts. Post-college, those relationships led to an entry-level role on the McDonald’s team. After relocating to the Bay Area, I joined GroupM, working on the JP Morgan Chase team. Recognizing industry shifts, I sought a cutting-edge advertising solution, which ultimately led me to Uber.

What does a typical day in the office look like for you?

As an Uber Partner Manager, I drive business growth by building and managing relationships with key advertisers that are looking to reach the one of a kind Uber audience. I work hand in hand with the salespeople to develop partnership strategies, ensuring they align with client goals. A typical day could see me monitoring campaign performance, analyzing data to offer insights, and troubleshooting any issues that arise. As a Partner Manager, overseeing brands across the finance, insurance, and travel industries, I am the primary point of contact for clients acting as a bridge between the advertiser and internal Uber teams. Some of my priority partners that I oversee include Chase, Fidelity, American Express, and Marriott.

How has Digital Studies influenced your career path?

The Digital Studies program provided a solid foundation in skills and knowledge that I believe are highly applicable to the advertising industry. Across the courses that I have taken, it has allowed me to understand digital culture, create compelling content, analyze data, communicate effectively, and adapt to the fast-paced advertising eco-system. These skills were extremely valuable when working at both an advertising agency and Uber.

Did you have a favorite Digital Studies class when you were a student?

Life Sciences Communication 440: Digital Media and Science Communication and Communication Arts 509: Digital Media & Political Communication. I enjoyed these courses because it forced me to think about industries I never previously learned about (Pharmaceuticals and Politics).

Do you have any advice for current students?

To make the most of your time at UW, embrace a mindset of continuous learning and adaptability, utilizing any and all resources to stay ahead of industry trends. Take advantage of all the courses UW has to offer to become a more well rounded individual. Additionally, make use of the Badger Alumni network to connect with individuals within your professional field of interest. Finally, enjoy Mendota, Camp Randall, and everything UW has to offer. I miss Madison everyday!

What achievement are you most proud of in your professional career thus far?

In my previous middle management role, I successfully led a team to exceed client expectations. Coaching and witnessing my team members’ individual growth and achievements is one of my proudest accomplishments.
