Life Sciences Communication 350: Visualizing Science & Technology
Visuals, ranging from graphics, photos, videos, animations to data visualizations, are widely used to communicate scientific concepts and information. In this course, you will explore the theoretical and practical principles of visual communication pertaining to science, environment, and agriculture. You will also learn how to discern various manipulations of visuals, such as distorted data graphs, deepfakes, and fake photos and reflect on the ethical implications.
Seafood Fraud
The goal of this project is to spread awareness about seafood fraud, specifically to young adults (such as college students) who are beginning to shop for food on their own. Seafood fraud is an alarming topic because it is the act of fraudulent mislabeling of a seafood product, where either one product is passed off as another, or a species is labeled using a commercial name unapproved by the FDA. The mislabeling of consumable products is unacceptable and our group strives to spread awareness about this through the creation of a visualizations.
